About Us

The Exeter Spitfires were first formed in 2000

and took their name from the Polish Spitfire squadon based in the city during World War 2. However Exeter's contribution to baseball streches all the way back to 1824 and the birth of Henry Chadwick, who would later go on to become one of baseball's greatest pioneers and earn a spot in baseball's hall of fame.

Despite a promising seasons in 2000 and 2001 the club was disbanded due to a lack of opposition. After a 10 year hiatus baseball was on the raise again in the South West with the birth of the South West Baseball League in 2012 a small group of former players got together with some new faces and decided the time was right to relaunch the Spitfires. They entired the South West Baseball League in 2013 alongside the Plymouth Mariners, Torbay Barons and Bristol Bats.
